Snapchat's big redesign finally rolled out this past week, but people are already calling for the company to bring back the old version of the app.
The update, which Snap Inc. announced in November 2017, features three main windows. When you first open the app, you'll still see the camera in the center window. But the left window now combines all your interactions with your friends, including Chats and Stories. And the right window includes content from creators, publishers, and the community.
Here's what the redesign looks like.
The update was designed to make Snapchat feel "more personal," but people are confused by the new layout.
On social media, the initial response to the redesign has been overwhelmingly negative. People think the app's new layout is disorienting and difficult to use.
"Can we please boycott Snapchat for this horrible, messy, unorganized new update?" Twitter user Beth Kyle wrote.

YouTuber and comedian Joe Santagato tweeted, "Snapchat update is garbage."

A workaround that reverts your Snapchat back to the old version quickly started circulating on the internet.
Twitter users began sharing a trick that lets you get the old version of Snapchat back, BuzzFeed reported. The series of steps involved deleting your Snapchat app, turning off automatic updates on your iPhone, redownloading Snapchat, and then resetting your account's password via your phone number.

Later that day, Snapchat's official Support account even tweeted a reminder to back up your Snapchat Memories before reinstalling Snapchat or logging out to make sure you don't lose them.
Before reinstalling Snapchat or logging out, make sure Memories are backed up or you could lose them 😔

Settings > Memories > Backup Progress ‘Complete’ means you’re all set. If not, tap to see which Snaps need backing up.
You'll also need your password so you can log back in!
We tried this trick on an iPhone 6s, and it actually worked — at least at first.
The workaround doesn't last long, and Snapchat says using it may even get you permanently locked out of your account.
The old Snapchat layout disappeared as soon as we sent a Snap to a friend. People on social media had similar experiences with the trick.
it instantly resets as soon as you send a chat. i’m upset.

Makeup artist Jaclyn Hill also warned her Twitter followers that reverting to the old Snapchat could get them barred from their account.
Update: Don’t do this! It can lead to being kicked out of your account & does NOT work. Snapchat is about to be cancelled from my life, let’s just put it that way. https://t.co/c6rwGWQ1ij

On Saturday, Snapchat Support issued a statement on Twitter warning people not to use tricks to get the old version of Snapchat back. "Don't believe everything you read on the internet," the company wrote. "Unofficial workarounds to change the way Snapchat looks are temporary and can result in getting permanently locked out of your account or losing Memories."
