An 11-year-old from South Carolina stole his family's car and drove it 200 miles to meet a stranger he met on Snapchat, police said.
The boy, who has not been publicly named, was reunited with his family after an officer from the Charleston Police Department found him driving alone at 12:30 a.m. on Monday.
He told the officer that he had taken his brother's car and driven it from Simpsonville to Charleston to meet an unknown male he met on Snapchat, the Charleston Police Department said in a press release published to Facebook.
The boy said he had been using his father's tablet for GPS instructions, but it lost signal and he lost the address he was going to. He could not get the address of Snapchat, because messages disappear after they are read.
The police officer contacted the boy's father, who said he was in the process of reporting his son missing in Simpsonville.
The father then drove to Charleston and picked up his son and the family car.
A Charleston Police spokesman told Insider that they are trying to identify the person who the 11-year-old was trying to meet. Authorities took the family's tablet as evidence.
